Today In The Valley (Dec. 7)

Bradley (4-2) at #13 Michigan State (4-2)
Breslin Center; East Lansing, Michigan
3:00 p.m.

Just as things were looking up for the Braves, they lost Will Egolf for the remainder of the season. Oh, and by the way, we’re going to need you to travel to East Lansing to play Michigan State who is coming off an embarrassing loss to top-rated North Carolina. The good thing for State? By the looks of the game on television, not many people were there to see it in person:

This wasn't the Final Four, that's for sure

Oh, and Jim Les: when you are finished with that game, we will let you come home for a game, but you will need to take on Butler. Not an easy next couple of weeks for the Braves. But Bradley has shown some promise, winning three in a row after a long road trip to start the season. They are showing some fire and hitting the boards.

But if there is one team in the past 6-8 years that has been a living definition of passion and rebounding, it is Tom Izzo’s Michigan State Spartans. Bradley will have their hands full as they look to enter a very hostile environment in East Lansing after the Spartans looked like the Lions at Ford Field.

Michigan State will be mistaken if they think they will be able to coast by the Braves this afternoon, and I hope Bradley gives them a real fight. If the Braves are able to pull off the next two games, it will be a great step forward headed closer to conference play.

If you or a friend has Direct TV, be sure to tune in to the Big Ten Network to cheer on the Braves.

Indiana State (0-6) vs. Lamar (6-1)
5:30 p.m.
Freedom Hall; Louisville, Kentucky

I know it is early, but things can’t be going well at Larry Legend’s alma mater. A winless start. An early RPI in the 300s. An absolute pasting yesterday at the hands of the Louisville Cardinals, 83-43. Coach McKenna and the Sycamores are clearly the worst team in the Missouri Valley Conference right now, and I’m sure Coach Mac is working hard to figure out the right combinations and strategies to get this turned around.

Today he and his team face Lamar, who at 6-1 has started the season strong behind some big-time senior leadership. Four Cardinals average double figure scoring, and they are all seniors: talk about experience leading the way. Kenny Dawkins (16 ppg), Brandon McThay (15 ppg), Jay Brown (13 ppg, 9 rpg), and Tristan Worrell (12 ppg, 6 rpg) will be an example for a young and inexperienced Sycamores squad to look toward for the future.

Lamar’s only loss this season was a blowout suffered at the hands of Kentucky. They average 77 points per game and they outrebound their opponents 40-33 on average.

Unfortunately, this looks like another tough contest for Jay Tunnell and ISU.
