Today In The Valley (Dec. 1)

Indiana State (0-4) vs. Arkansas State (4-1)
6:00 p.m.
Hulman Center; Terre Haute, Indiana

Indiana State returns home winless after a heartbreaking 75-70 loss to the DePaul Blue Demons of the Big East. ISU was down at halftime 39-19 but charged back in the second half by shooting nearly 53% from the field. Will the Sycamores be able to carry that momentum into their battle with Sun Belt Conference opponent Arkansas State?

The Red Wolves enter the game after winning a nail-biter over Ball State, 54-53. After losing their first game of the season to Ole’ Miss (a game ASU led at halftime), the Red Wolves have reeled off 4 straight wins. They seem to be responding to new head coach, former LSU head man John Brady (who took the Tigers to the Final Four in 2006), and they feature 8 players averaging between 5 and 10 points per game. That’s the definition of a balanced attack.

It will be up to ISU to shut down this balanced offense in much the same way as they played in the second half against DePaul. The Sycamores have their fair share of offensive weapons, with 4 players in double figures per game points-wise. That includes Aaron Carter, who recorded a career-high 19 points against the Blue Demons on Saturday.

I will be watching this game closely tonight, as I think that coach Kevin McKenna and the Sycs will get their first “W” tonight.
